Welcome to the blog of Jane Hignite, Independent Stampin' Up! Demonstrator

Birthday Beer Card for Mike

My son, Mike, is celebrating his 21st birthday today. At a recent stamp camp, I shared this card with my stampers.

My stampers really loved the fun card and the Bermuda Bay/Crumb Cake/Chocolate Chip color combination.  Our new Bubble Over stamp set is in the Occasions mini catalog.  You can create beer bottles or soda bottles in two different sizes and use framelits so you don’t need to fussy cut!

There is coordinating Designer Series Paper you can get for free during Sale-A-Bration!  Just spend $50 to get your free pack!

Happy birthday, Mike!  Can’t wait to share a cold one with you!

100th Technique Tuesday Celebration

I’ve been a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator for over 16 years, and I adore my customers. Last night, we celebrated a huge milestone – my 100th Technique Tuesday class. With 100 classes, I taught over 300 techniques – quite a treasure trove of ideas!

We celebrated in many ways – we ate (like every other stamping event). I even had the local bakery put a quick “100” on the cake.

Door prizes were abundant at the event.  I did an all-guest door prize giveway.  I also shared a fun quiz for my guests to fill out with ten questions about the history of Technique Tuesday.  It was a four-way tie.  Some of their answers were devilishly funny.  I also did another door prize drawing for the three guests who have attended ALL 100 classes!  Thank you so much to Sandy Becker, Kellie Becker Marquardt, and Sue Hale for sharing my love of stamping and supporting my business.

On to stamping!  One of the cards we created last night was a Matchbook Birthday Card.  Using the Big on Birthdays stamp set and the Party Animal DSP and embellishments in the Occasions catalog plus the balloon punch and Emerald Envy ruched ribbon, we quickly put together this card.  Very fun and easy – thanks to Patty Bennett for the inspiration!

Jeani’s Birthday Card

One of my coworkers celebrated a milestone birthday today.  She is  totally devoted to our school kids and is loved by all.  I created this special card for her day.

Lots of Big Shot items used on this card – Circles, Stars, and Large Number framelits and the Stars embossing folder.  The balloon punch and silver thread (sorry, not visible in this photo) were also used.  Our school colors are red and blue so that dictated my color combo.

Hope it was a fabulous day, Jeani!

You could easily change this up for an anniversary card, graduation card, retirement card, or even a sports team-themed card.

Thankful*Grateful*Blessed Pretty Paisley Card

November is a month of important dates for my family.  My husband and I celebrate our wedding anniversary and both of our birthdays.

We have another event to celebrate – my father’s successful heart surgery!  We are so *thankful*grateful*blessed* that he came out of it and is working hard in recuperation and recovery.

My customers made this card a while ago and were surprised how much they loved the color combination.  It is a little more masculine with the Early Espresso and Copper, but I always love our Elegant Eggplant card stock in fall-themed cards!  The copper embossing powder and copper foil sheets make this card pop and shine.

Wacky Wednesday Monster Punch Card

Punch classes are favorite events for my customers!  At my Holiday Cards Punch Class this month, here is the Halloween Punch Card we made:

I did base this off of another demo’s card, but added some of my own creativity too.

Here is what you need to make this card:

  • (2) 1-1/2″ circle punch pieces in Whisper White
  • (4) Tree Builder branches in Real Red
  • (2) 3/4″ circle punch pieces in Pacific Point
  • (2) 1/2″ circle punch pieces in Basic Black
  • (2) Fox Builder tails in Old Olive
  • (1) Fox Builder body in Old Olive (cut for nose)
  • (1) Classic Label punch piece in Whisper White (I punched out about 3/4 of it for the mouth)
  • (1) Star punch point in Whisper White

You do need to trim the branches for the bloodshot eyes.  I also used the chalk marker for the mouth.

The card comes together very quickly.  Don’t forget – how you place the eyes is how nice/wacky/mean a creature can look!

Hope you enjoyed this whimsical card – I think it is a perfect way to celebrate my 16 years as a demonstrator!

Mixed Drinks Step It Up Saturday

I sound like a broken record.  Wish I could put more time into my blog, and I do have good intentions.  I certainly am stamping; in fact, October is my busiest month for stamping.  However, with my other jobs and family commitments and then my major vices Facebook and Pinterest, it is hard to focus on working this part of my business.

Today’s Step It Up card features the stamp set Mixed Drinks.  Love, love, love it for fun and whimsical cards.

Here is my first extremely simple card –

I transformed it into a Z Fold Card and added some DSP and card stock layers.

I should have colored in the umbrella and the straw.  You could add bling of course.

Hmm…is it too early for a cocktail?

Totally Trees Step It Up Saturday

I knew I wanted to share this step-it-up set of cards on World Card-Making Day.

The first card was a simple but lovely card created for the Fabulous Fall Stamp Camp.  We used the Totally Trees stamp set and the Rose Wonder stamp set for the phrase.  Also used for this card was the Petals & Paisleys Specialty Designer Series Paper (sorry, not one on sale), Layering Squares Framelits, and the Ribbon Trio Pack. We did double dip the inking of leaves on this card – start with the lightest color and before stamping lightly restamp into a darker color.

But even though I liked this card, I knew it was a perfect card to step up.

I added another vertical layer behind the DSP, tied a knot with ribbon, added three copper circles, and embossed both the phrase and the leaves on the tree.  Some very simple changes, but they really make this card pop.

Show me some love and subscribe to my blog.  At the end of October, I will review all new subscribers, and if they have ordered from me, I will put them into a random door prize drawing for a $10 gift certificate.

Throwback Thursday – Embossed Foil Card

I haven’t done a Throwback Thursday for quite a while.  Today’s card features a technique from October 2011 called Embossed Metal Technique.  The older card used Jack of All Trades stamp set and the web embossing folder plus some accent images from Spooky Bits stamp set.  The metal on this card was a thick and sturdy piece of craft metal.

For my new card, I wanted to feature more of the embossed piece, but didn’t have a thick piece of craft metal at the ready so I used aluminum foil instead.  You do need to be careful to not tear the larger piece, but it is quite economical and sure to be found in your cupboard.  I went to our lovely Woodlands embossing folder for this card plus I used the Peace This Christmas stamp set.

Wacky Wednesday-#WeLoveDS (Demo Support) Card

As a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator for almost 16 years, I have had many occasions where Demo Support has really come to my rescue.

Our plastic stamp cases do NOT like our Wisconsin winters, and replacements are only a quick and friendly phone call away.  Then, there are those mistakes (usually by me) when entering item codes and getting not what my customer wanted.  Again, in a matter of a minute or two, Demo Support responds and solves a problem.  Procedure and business questions come up occasionally too.  Yup, they are more than helpful in those instances as well.  I cannot remember a time where they didn’t solve my problem to more than my satisfaction, even when blame was truly on my shoulders.

So in my eyes, I see them as lifesavers.  I created this card and sent the package to celebrate them (along with other demonstrators around the world) and thank them for helping me succeed in my business.  #weloveDS  We really do.

Fabulous Friday – 25th Anniversary Card

My sister and brother-in-law celebrated their 25th anniversary last month.  My sister adores the color blue, so I knew I had to incorporate blue into the card.

I’ve been using up some older vellum – those hearts are just perfect for backing this card.  Silver Glimmer paper really sparkles, and I love to use it on special cards.  Number framelits and oval framelits hit the mark on this too.

Simple, but made with love.
