Welcome to the blog of Jane Hignite, Independent Stampin' Up! Demonstrator

VC Rocks Blog Hop – Big Shot, Sizzix Dies, and Punches

Hello all…

It’s time to blog hop with our talented VC Rockers!  This time around, we are focusing on the Big Shot, Sizzix Dies, and Stampin’ Up! punches.  I’ve got one of the favorite cards from this week’s Technique Tuesday class to show off.

The card we made used the Northern Lights technique.  No, I cannot take credit for the technique.  I actually learned it from another demonstrator, Kay Kalthoff.

I used the Apothecary Accents framelits for the focal image.  I also used the Decorative Dots embossing folder – one of my favorites!

The instructions for the technique are really pretty easy.

Supplies

  • Daffodil Delight/Tempting Turquoise/Rich Razzleberry/Night of Navy Inkpads
  • StazOn Inkpad
  • Whisper White Card Stock
  • Sponges
  • Lovely as a Tree Stamp Set or other Landscape Stamp Set
  • Decorative Dots Embossing Folder
  • Apothecary Accents Framelits
  • Scrap Paper
  • White Gel Pen
  • Black Taffeta Ribbon
  • Glue Dots

Lay Whisper White CS on scrap paper.

Using sponge and going in a back and forth motion, apply stripes of color to WW CS.  (1-DD; 2-TT  Add Rich Razzle on top).  Leave a little light coming through the other colors.

Stamp the tree landscape in StazOn on top of the stripes.

Sponge Night of Navy to the edge of the ground.  Completely fill in that section with Night of Navy.  (Northern Lights don’t shine through the ground.)

Lightly sponge more Night of Navy over the top of the stripes.  Leave some light shine through.

Once dry, add “stars” with white gel pen.

Dramatic effect – all will look a little different.  The colors will soften as they dry.

I hope you enjoy all the VC ROCKS blogs on this month’s blog hop!  Come back again!

Oooh, so pretty! I missed Northern Lights this year because I didn’t go to Minnesota. But this really does do them justice!

First thing when I saw your card, it reminded me of the northern lights and then I read you used that technique. Gave me a chuckle. Well done.

Very artistic card. This is a good template to use for almost anything but I could really see doing this for Christmas.
